handmade cotto - terracotta flooring laid with mortar (*)

coperture Supply and installation of Pica Cotto Zoni handmade cotto flooring (Pica Cotto David type) with Smoothed (or rusticated) finish, using tiles of the size 25 x 25 cm, (30 x 30, 15 x 30) in the colour Antique Rose (Rosso Toscano, Giallo Terra di Siena for the Cotto David range) laid according to the layouts supplied by the Director of Works, sprinkling cement over a bedding layer formed by cement mortar levelled perfectly with a float or rotor and comprised of equal parts of quarried sand, 325 cement and hydraulic lime, no less than 5 cm thick.

The installation shall take careful account of the perfect angles and flatness between single pieces, as well as the evenness of 3 mm joints (or 5-8 mm joints for rusticated finishes).

Suitable expansion joints shall be fitted, as indicated by the Director of Works.

The works will include all cutting and jointing, as well as sealing the joints with the relevant rubber spatula using traditional grout made with 60 - 80 kg 325 grey cement to 100 l fine silica sand in water (or ready-made sealants of the best brands, not too markedly coloured).

The tiles must be pre-waterproofed using a water-based, water-repellent product (Kemiosill 116 New Chemical, HP/98 Fila …) before sealing the joints.

The flooring will be cleaned with the same mixture, pressing the joints carefully with a sponge. The whole shall be executed following good working practices.

(*) As far as concerns washing and treatment, specific sections are required. For outdoor laying, all precautions (even laying bed, drainage, slope, expansion joints) will be adopted and therefore, specified, as illustrated in the section "design and installation _ terracotta outdoors".
